Tools for the Job Part 2

So now you know that I went from two basic machines, totaling about $400 to a big girl machine.  I typically have a hard time making big ticket purchases and end up buyer’s remorse. Not this time and here is how it all went down.

I’m fortunate enough to be around someone who has been sewing for decades and more thankful that’s she’s always willing to share a little knowledge. Bottom line is I needed a better sewing machine. So, my sewing friend told me to check out Babylock. I’d heard of Babylock and knew it was a respectable brand.

I did a little research and visited the local dealer. I told the guy what my budget was and told him I was a beginner. Well, this dude showed me a machine that cost more than I paid for my car. WTH! And that’s all he showed me. There’s nothing more for me to say other than the fact that I walked out disappointed and defeated.

While sulking for a few days, I did some more research. I really had no interest in Husqvarna Viking.  I’d sewed on them and found their computerized interface bland and out dated. I didn’t know much about any of the other brands and there were no dealers in my area.  I wanted a dealer that was close to home.  A place where I could learn and grow with.  Well, I found it and to this day I am so thankful for the path that was chosen for me.

In my research I came across Bernina. I was impressed by what I read and found a local dealer.  I went to the shop and informed the dealer on my budget.  I honestly add no real idea of what my budget should have been.  I knew I wanted a machine that could also embroider.  So, I knew I had to come out of pocket a little.  I was shown three (3) machines.  One below my price point, at my price point, and slightly above my price point.  To say I was impressed by what I saw is an understatement.

The machines were amazing.  Semi auto needle threader, auto thread cutter, hands-free system, tension adjustment, feet for days.   I can’t even lie, I was sold when I saw the auto thread cutter and the hands free knee lift.  I thanked the dealer, took my brochures home and did a little more research.  I ended up choosing the Bernina 560E.

Yes, I am amazed by this machine and currently saving for a larger model.

Check me out on Instagram to see some of the amazing items I’ve created since my upgrade.  This journey only gets better.
