In the first Sew Real post, I talked about what drove me to sewing. This week I’m going to speak about the ups and downs I went through completing those first few items.
I started with a Singer Featherweight FW75 I’d purchased from HSN years prior. I thought it was a pretty solid machine. So, I pulled it out it out of the garage. To my dismay, I could not find the foot pedal, the power cord or any of the feet. I can tell you that my husband is still a suspect in the investigation.
Feeling defeated and not giving in, I went out and bought a cheap Singer Stylist 7258. This is the machine that produced the items I displayed last week. Not bad, right? It was so wrong.
I made up my mind that if I could get through that Simplicty Jiffy pattern with it, I surely could make Simplicity Pattern 8084 with some one on one assistance. Well I learned quickly that this machine was not up to the challenge. Yes, I was a beginner, but my expectations were far beyond what this machine could deliver. Let’s just say I learned quickly that I was what I now call an enthusiastic beginner. If you are or think you are an enthusiastic beginner, you’ll definately want to join me next week on why I made a serious upgrade, the machine I now own and the amazing items I’ve sewn. Happy Sewing!
