My love for handbags improved my sewing skills.
Tote Bag with matching Cosmetic Case
I became a little discouraged with clothing because I felt like there was so much for me to learn. Pattern reading, having the right tools, fitting, and on and on.
One day, I was staring at a tote bag that I had. I thought to myself. “I can make this. It’s a square. How hard could it be?” I grabbed some fabric, zippers webbing and YouTube (how to make a zippered pocket) and went to work.
This is just a small fraction of the many bags I made over a 6-9 month period. Yes, I wasn’t making any clothing besides trying to finish up a dress I’d started. I was perfectly fine with that although clothing is why I started this journey in the first place.
It was during my bag making process that I realized the following:
I wanted and needed a better quality sewing machine if I was going to stay on this journey. (Remember Tools for the Job)
I needed some continued, experienced help with making garments.
Sometimes you have to take a step back or take a different approach in order to properly progress.
